Countdown to End of Transition Begins!
We are nearing the end of our contract transition work and with that comes a flurry of activity that will lead to FermiForward Discovery Group, or FermiForward, becoming the management and operating contractor for Fermilab on Jan. 1, 2025. With less than 30 days left in the transition, keeping our eye on the ball and avoiding any distractions that might lead to a safety incident is more critical than ever. Transition activities slowed slightly last week due to a pause for the Thanksgiving holiday. Recent highlights include:
Offer letters were provided to incumbent Fermilab employees. In the first 72 hours, 90% of employees completed their acceptance!
The University of Chicago blue-sheeted, approved, and funded the Fermilab Scholarship program. These actions allowed the FRA HR team to initiate action for the 2025 award year.
Progress continued on steps to ensure all business systems are ready for day one of the contract.
The Worker Health & Safety Plan, Site Security Plans, Quality Assurance Manual and Joint Appointment Plan were among the deliverables submitted to the Department of Energy.

FermiForward to Advance Discovery on the Prairie Initiative
Fermilab has long welcomed users, affiliates, partners, visitors, students from nearby schools, and local community members to participate in onsite, remote, and virtual activities. Innovation, discovery, and technology maturation and transfer have been the focus of many of these stakeholder interactions. FermiForward’s “Discovery on the Prairie” (DoP) initiative will enhance all aspects of Fermilab’s outreach to the full laboratory community, including partnerships, STEM support, access and tech transfer.
